Diane Mancher created and founded the SPBE as the first and only true home for self-published authors and the companies committed to helping them bring their books to the marketplace. A seasoned publishing professional, she recognized the growing popularity of this segment of publishing and created the show in 2009.
Mancher is a publishing professional with over 30 years of experience as a book publicist. She began her career at High Times magazine, spent two years at Stonehill Publishing and 10 years at St. Martin’s Press, working with some of their most prestigious authors including Randy Shilts (And The Band Played On), Mary Wilson (Dreamgirl: My Life As a Supreme), and James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small). After leaving St. Martin’s, Mancher held senior positions at Dell/Delacorte and Avon Books. In 1992, Mancher left in-house publishing to start One Potata Productions, Inc, a public relations firm catering to books and authors. Now in its’ 22nd year, One Potata has an excellent track record working with publishers large and small, and has achieved phenomenal success in placing at least one book on the bestseller list every year of its’ existence. Mancher has been a guest speaker for the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the New York Writers Conference and Book Expo America. She has also been a guest teacher for the NYU Publishing Program and has been featured on C-Span.
